Urban Beach House

Built on one of the last privately owned parcels in the City of Chicago fronting Lake Michigan, this 6,800 square foot icon of modern design provided a unique opportunity to work with some of the most modern technologies in the business.  Both the house and its detached boat house are topped with a green roof, and the building is heated utilizing a geothermal system.  The whole house Building Automation System controls the heating and cooling, lighting, security, and audio visual systems from one centralized tablet location.  The home's structure is accentuated with the use of architecturally exposed structural steel, and is clad in blue oolitic Indiana limestone.  Glass along the east facade is hurricane grade in order to stand up to Chicago's harsh winters, and spray foam insulation in the walls and ceilings ensures both a high level of temperature control, as well as noise control throughout the home.  The upper floors are topped with hand scraped white oak, with millwork to match throughout, and the the ground floor is finished in slate.  A dramatic center-pivot glass door provides viewing and access to a centrally located wine room.
